Alpharadin
Alpharadin® is Algeta’s lead alpha-pharmaceutical candidate and is partnered with pharmaceutical company Bayer Schering Pharma AG. It is in a global phase III clinical trial as a potential new treatment for patients with bone metastases associated with major cancers.
Bone metastases are serious consequences of such cancers, causing debilitating pain, decreasing patient quality of life and reducing life expectancy.
Alpharadin® (radium-223 chloride) has unique mode of action. It combines a natural affinity for bone metastases with the potent and localized tumor cell-killing activity of alpha-particle emission, which has minimal effect on surrounding normal cells.
Development of Alpharadin® is most advanced as a treatment for bone metastases resulting from castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC).
In phase II studies, Alpharadin® demonstrated strong evidence that it can prolong patient survival times, improve quality of life and offer a benign safety profile.
